Snappee was founded in 2014

It all started in 2014 with a snap – or rather, the frustrating pop of yet another broken hair tie. For Keziah, navigating the hair accessory aisle had become a familiar exercise in disappointment. Nothing seemed designed for her thick, beautiful, textured hair. Countless hair ties met their untimely demise, often getting so tangled they required a rescue mission by her mother with a pair of scissors.

Then came the pivotal moment in Los Angeles. Getting ready for an audition, Keziah reached for her last hair tie… and snap! In a burst of frustration, a wish escaped her lips: "I wish I had a hair tie that just snapped on and snapped off to fit around my big afro!" The idea, so simple and brilliant, was quickly jotted down on a post-it note and then, momentarily, forgotten.

Months later, a visit from her older brother unearthed the dusty note. His enthusiastic encouragement ignited a spark in Keziah, recognizing the passion behind her idea.

With her own two hands, Keziah created the very first Snappee prototype in her Los Angeles studio apartment. What began as a personal solution soon blossomed into a mission. Late in 2014, the official Snappee website launched, and since then, over half a million Snappee hair ties have found their way to happy customers. Beyond the revolutionary adjustable hair ties, Snappee now offers a range of thoughtfully designed scrunchies and headbands, all aimed at simplifying hair styling.

Driven by a desire to empower and educate, Keziah also founded SwirlyCurly, a sister brand dedicated to providing valuable resources and guidance for textured hair.

At Snappee, we believe that everyone deserves hair accessories that work with their hair, not against it. We're proud to have created a solution born from a real need, and we're excited to continue innovating and making hair styling easier and more joyful for all.
